The purpose of Pipeline pigging is to optimize the flow efficiency of the pipeline and to maintain the pipelines continuous operation.
To achieve this, pigging is required during every stage of the life of a pipeline. i.e.
During construction, Pre commissioning, Operations, Maintenance and Repair, Renovations and Decommissioning.
The pipelines application is also important in preparing the pigging program and Pig selection. When planning the pigging program, each pipeline have different diameters, lengths, materials, wall thickness, products, geometry, operating pressures and temperatures, so the pigging approach must match the particular stage and need of the individual pipeline and its operation.
Those types of pipeline could be summarised as follows.
Water lines
Process lines
Gas and Crude pipelines
Other: Food, Beverage, Dairy, Pharmaceutical as examples
